This Could Be On Broadway!

Created by The Tin Can Brothers

"This Could Be On Broadway" is a new stage musical about a group of high school students mounting their spring musical and the shenanigans that ensue. From callbacks to the cast party, the stage is a battleground where egos flare, showmances rage, and the only option is to option up. From the minds of Lauren Lopez, Clark Baxtresser, Brian Rosenthal, Corey Lubowich, & Joey Richter

The show is about to begin!! 🚀

After nearly a year of brainstorming, kickstarting, writing, rehearsing, performing, and editing (not all at the same time 🤹🏻‍♂️), we're proud to announce that tickets are now on sale for the Filmed Staged Concert Reading of our newest musical, This Could Be On Broadway! 🎊

Snag your tickets here 👉🏼 https://www.tincanbros.com/tickets

Tomorrow begins our official promo for the show (so please share the link with theatre lovers everywhere🎭!!). The Final Act Has Begun!! (Post-Production 🎞, Remaining Rewards 📬, and Release💻 of This Could Be on Broadway!)
about 2 years ago – Tue, Feb 08, 2022 at 06:07:02 AM

Happy New Year TCBoB Team!! 🎉

Thanks for being patient with us as we closed out 2021🚪 and got our ducks in a row for 2022 🦆🦆🦆 . As we wrap up the first month of the new year, we've got a LOT to report regarding the progress of This Could Be on Broadway!!

How's the show coming along? 🤓

The short answer is: GREAT. Between the 3 cameras we shot on and the 10 separate microphones capturing sound, there was a ton of footage to organize, sync, and prepare for the edit. Over the course of November and December, Brian put his Assistant Editor skills to good use prepping everything for a first edit pass. Luckily, the show was shot in a way that there's not an overwhelming amount of options for the edit! We had two cameras shooting coverage of the left and right sides of the stage, and one center camera that alternated between a "wide" angle and a dynamic roving shot. When it comes to post production, our experience shooting stage shows over the years using the multi-camera method has resulted in a straight forward editing philosophy: cut between shots in a way that helps tell the story and/or amplify jokes!

So where are we at? This week, we're doing our first watch through of Act 1 (with Act 2 a few days later). We'll give our notes on this edit, keeping an eye out for alternate takes or pacing issues, and, after those are implemented, have a picture locked version of the show by the second week of February! From there, the show will go to Clark for additional underscoring (something we chose not to do during filming to give us more editing options), then go through a final sound mix/color pass...juuuuuust in time for a release in mid March!! If you're thinking, "Damn. This is a bunch to get through," you're not wrong! But that's not all...

Oh, yeah! Isn't there an album? 💿

There sure is! This past week, we recorded all the vocals for our Los Angeles based performers and it was a JOY to revisit Clark's catchy tunes once again. And since Clark is producing remotely, we were thrilled to bring fellow musical maestro, Matt Dahan, aboard to record & engineer vocals! 🗣

Matt has an incredible home studio set up, top notch organizational methods, and an overall WONDERFUL attitude, so we were super lucky to have him leading the sessions while Clark listened in and continued to arrange/orchestrate the album from Chicago! After recording Esther's vocals in New York next week, Clark will assemble all the vocal & instrumental parts and send the stems (individual tracks) over to ANOTHER musical savant friend of ours, Tomek Miernowski, for mixing, mastering, and any additional instrumentation. If this all sounds like an intricately scheduled plan that requires tremendous efficiency and precision to complete on time... again, YOU'RE NOT WRONG😅. But we're fortunate enough to surround ourselves with pros! And if our years of self-producing have taught us anything, it's that the best way to get something done is to pick a date and BACK INTO IT BABY!!

Cool! So, I've gotten some rewards, but what about the rest? 📦

Never fear! The gears are in motion for delivery of the remaining Kickstarter rewards! Over the last few weeks, we've loved seeing pictures of your goodies, so keep sharing them with us @tincanbros on Instagram and Twitter! 📲

We've received several messages about rewards that haven't yet arrived and/or address changes, so here's a few reminders about our reward fulfillment that may help you out:

-Ann Arbor Tees fulfilled all of our physical rewards (pins, shirts, patches, souvenir tickets, and playbills). So if you're concerned about the status of your order, please reach out to [email protected] with all questions.

-Regarding address changes, unfortunately addresses have been locked on BackerKit since the end of last year (you should've received several messages about this) so we could begin sending out rewards. But if you have mail forwarding set through the postal service, you should still receive things sent to your new address! Another option is reaching out to [email protected] to see if they are able to resend any physical rewards (depending on supply).

If you backed the $15 reward tier or above, we'd like to formally invite you to the This Could Be on Broadway Preview Livestream on Sunday February 27th @ 12 PM PT!! Featuring the TCBoB Creative Team and several members of the workshop cast, we'll be chatting about the writing process, hearing about the actors' experiences/auditions, chatting about changes to the script, and even breaking out into song with a couple performances previewing the music! 🤩  Remember, This Could Be on Broadway is still very much a living, breathing project. So, even as we build to the release of the workshop, breakthroughs may happen ON AIR as we chat about the experience of creating the show from scratch with this special group of people! Mark your calendars now!! 🗓

Diving back into this project in full force has been an exciting way to start the year and we are so pumped to share everything with you! This Could Be on Broadway is definitely our sweetest🍬 show to-date. It's an exploration and a celebration of our shared experiences of being "theatre kids" and, in addition to that classic TCB goofiness, is brimming with heart. After two years of a worldwide pandemic, we hope it will be a much-needed balm for the theatre lover inside all of us. 🥰🎭

The Reading Is Cast! 🎲 And Rehearsals Are Right Around the Corner...!!!😱
over 2 years ago – Thu, Oct 14, 2021 at 09:21:49 PM

Hello friends,

How time flies when you are writing and producing a staged concert reading. ⏰ We are just over a week away from beginning rehearsals for This Could Be On Broadway and thrilled to announce that we have put together a stellar cast of performers for this staged concert reading. If you have been following our work for some time, you will undoubtably recognize some of these faces, but we are also delighted to be working with some other talented folk for the first time.

Additionally, we are hard at work getting the script and songs up to snuff! As we discussed during the Kickstarter campaign, this project is about process. And with a solid (but malleable) script in hand, we are so excited to begin the process of bringing the words off the page and into the rehearsal room. How will things change? What will our words sound like when processed through the hearts, minds, and vocal cords of the actors? Could this show actually be on Broadway (our characters certainly seem to think so)???

We definitely have our work cut out for us the next few weeks, but look forward to diving into all the creative possibilities before us. This project is going to be something special! We'll be in touch again after production with more news. Until then, we thank you for your support and look forward to sharing the world of Mountain Valley High School with you soon.

Best,

The TCBOB Creative Team

over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 08, 2021 at 09:55:23 PM

When Sweeney Todd said, "There's a hole in the world like a big black pit who are filled with people who are filled with shit..."💩he was WRONG!! He was DEAD wrong. There IS a whole in the world, BUT it's a big shining orb filled with lovely people like yourself who so generously helped us exceed our fundraising goal! 👯‍♀️🥳👯‍♂️ We are beyond floored that in addition to producing a staged concert reading of This Could Be On Broadway, we will also be bringing you a DadCam™️ & Mommentary™️ 👨‍👩‍👦commentary video AND a Cast Album 📀of this first iteration of the show. WOW!!! Take that Demon Barber of Fleet Street!!!

***TLDR: We did it!!!!!

Reward Surveys 📝

🚨BackerKit surveys will be hitting your inbox at the end of September (the email you used for this Kickstarter)!  It's like homework... but FUN!!! On the survey, you will enter all the pertinent information we need for you to receive your rewards in a timely manner: mailing addresses, shirt sizes, add-on selections, etc. You'll also be able to adjust your pledge to include additional add-ons (if you missed the opportunity during the campaign).

You'll have exactly one month to complete your survey. If you don't complete it in that timeframe, we may not be able to get you your rewards! Please also make sure to include a reliable address for all shipped rewards! If you are moving, please make sure your mail will be forwarded or put down your new address when you fill out the survey.

🎁Most physical rewards will arrive in December and we'll be reaching out to "🚪The Room(s) Where It Happens" backers soon to schedule the Rehearsal Visits. Other digital rewards such as the Scratch Album, Video Chats, Preview Livestream, and Cast Party will be delivered/occur at a later date TBA. We'll update you when those are coming. (FYI: The reward estimates listed on the Kickstarter page are very conservative, just in case of any unforeseen circumstances that may impede their delivery. But we hope to have them to you sooner!🤞🏼)

***TLDR: Stay tuned for reward surveys!

And so it begins...🚦
